These symbols referred to are only superimposed on the LCD / viewfinder of the camcorder and not on the actual image being viewed or downloaded for recording, a way to verify this is just to connect the AV lead from the camcorder into the AV sockets on your TV and observe the result. You dont mention the model so I cant really comment any more than to say that I haven't found any exceptions to that rule.
