Tape Stuck in 1980 svhs deck

Does anyone know how to eject a tape jammed in a Panasonic 1980 SVHS deck. This is the second deck in less than a week that this has happened. The tape is rewound to the clear leader and is still wrapped around the head and rollers. There doesn't appear to be a worm gear anywhere to back out. The machine tries to work then shuts down and I get an F 04 error code. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Cliff vidmon@aol.com
