What is this Safeguard Mode? Help!!!

I have a JVC GR-DF550 Mini DV video camera. The last time I used it everything was fine. Now when I attempt to load the Mini DV the door opens but the part to insert the Mini DV does not open and I get an error message that the camera is in safeguard mode. I took out the battery and replaced it as directed but the same thing keeps happening. What should I do now? And I do not have the receipt. It is nearly two years old.
