Need help in transfering video from a JVC GR-DVP7E Pal Camcorder onto a MAC Pro OS 10.4 computer

Hello, You can please help. Recently, I aquired the JVC GR-DVP7E Pal Camcorder. Now I am trying to transfer a video from this camcorder onto a new Mac Pro computer; with OS 10.4.10. iMovie soiftware requires Firewire, but the computer has USB 2.0 on it. The info on the MAC states that I should be able to transfer the video via USB port, directly onto the computer hard drive. But when I connect the camera to the computer via USB, and follow all the correct steps, the camera does not appear on the desktop. Do I need any special software to make this video transfer onto the Mac? Please help. Thanks. Aaron aaronwolfson@aol.com
