Go Video error code A-tr. What's it mean.

I have a Go Video combo dvd/vcr. The vcr will not record in any mode but will play a recorded tape. When I record and playback the screen is black/gray and scrambled and the machine flashes a code of A-tr. Any ideas? Tks.
