E-03 is indicating that the cassette take up spindle is not turning properly and so the mechanism closed down to avoid the possibility of the tape twisting up. In most cases its caused by a defective cassette being used, however further info can only really be sent to a direct e-mail address, achieved by clicking on my "RED" link (and nothing else!) and entering it there.
