Constant OVERLOAD error message when I am playing DVDs

It seems that everytime a loud sound effect occurs in a movie my receiver goes into overload. I turn it off and re set according to the manual but nothing helps. Do I just need a more powerful rcvr to handle loud movies? It is only 100 W per channel. thanks
