getting nothing but blue screen durring cassett play

hello, i have a gr-dvf21 and everything seems to be funtioning but when i place a cassett in for playback it just gives me a contionious blue screen while playing,fast forwarding or rewind.also the counters display is blinking blank. any help would be greatly appreciated.reguards,keith.
