Hi: I believe the MDR-IF0230 (notice the extra '0') is typically provided as part of a Sony TV set with a built-in transmitter. The MDR-IF230 is included as part of a separate wireless headphone system (such as the one I have) which is designed as a stand-alone, that can be connected to any system, and provide wireless headphones feature. If you have a MDR-IF0230, you do not need anything else--your television already has the infrared/wireless transmitter built in.
