Sony LCD 55" projection "Digital Q box??"

My 55" Sony LCD Projection went out. A Sony tech said it was the "digital Q box" that I never heard about. Anyone ever hear of this and how hard would it be to replace myself? I am pretty handy but not a trained Sony tech. He wants 650.00 to do the job which is too much for my budget. Basically the tv works at first, then all controls freeze then the entire screen turns to multicolor vertical lines throughout the screen and sound goes out as well.
