digital camcorder model # GR-DVP3U

I bought this camcorder (I think) 2002. I started having e04 problem after about 1 month. I could work around it for a while then I just gave up on it. I came across it today while cleaning out some boxes. The unit worked well for about 3 hours! Then it went back to the same old "remove and replace battery...camera IN SAFEGUARD MODE" Has anything ever been done to fix this problem? I see A LOT of jvc camcorder owners with the same problem..
