They painted over my intercom!

I just moved into a condo and the intercom from the 70s/early 80s was painted over and looks horrible. I unscrewed it and I cannot clean it as the wires are directly hooked up to components that are part of the face plate. There are no marks on it, it measures 5 x 5 inches, and has a button to speak and a button to buzz in. Any thoughts on how to replace it?
