Doorbell Repair Instructions Needed

The light went out on my doorbell. I bought a new bulb, size PBL-2, and put it in but could not get the doorbell light to work and now the chime doesn't work either. How can I repair it? Need step-by-step guidance. I see sparking but light doesn't stay on no matter how much I turn the bulb. No electrical genius
