Sony DSC-T1 LCD ribbon cable release and white screen

My Sony DSC-T1 has a white screen but there are a couple of lines of pixles at the very top of the screen. Is the LCD replacement my only choice? I read there is another way to get it to work but can not find the solution. I looked at the ribbon cable and can't see how to release it from the socket.
