Error codes or symbols

I have a Sony CCD-TR87 camcorder which I haven't used for quite some time because I thought it was shot. I bought a new battery and it works fine except for a couple of things. First, it looks completely out of focus no matter what setting it's on, and second I sometimes have a flashing E in the upper corner with other numbers. I can somtimes zoom in and out and other times I can't. The only time it will focus is right in the middle of all the zooming. Also, I have a hand at the bottom with an F in it. What does this mean? I have also had a human icon there as well. Can you help me at all??? I have my manual packed away in storage somewhere and would like to fix this if I can. Thank you!!!
