can someone help with my problem..

i went to use my cam the other day and when i went to record on it the screen was dark with message lens cap.. the lens cap was removed.. I've took the tape out and the battery and left it all open but still no luck... i can watch tapes I've recorded on it so i know the screen is ok and the lens adjust when you zoom in and out but i have no picture view when recording on screen or the view finder... can someone please help...
