Please help me with my Camcorder

We love this camera, but we turned it on the other day, and it had a clear picture as usual, then had a few horizontal lines, turned purple and then when to a completely funky horizontal line screen. If I shut the machine off and then turn it on it will again work for a few seconds, and then malfunction. This is pretty consistent. Please offer any suggestions.. Bill T.
