Hey, Were you able to find any manuals or insructions on replacing flash? I also am having trouble with my Canon SD500. Flash is not working and I have already tried recharging battery and changing all configurations on camera settings to correct with no luck. Camera now only takes photos without flash.
Any help would be appretiated and if I find anything in my searches I will forward to you also.

I have the same exact problem. Bought new batteries and new charger. I called the company and they said it sounds as if the the "flash" circut burned out. This would cause your battery to lose charge quickly.
They gave some options. Here is the info so that you can contact them.
