TV will not turn on

My TV was working fine. Then I tried to turn it on and it just has a clicking sound and the red light flashes on and off as I press the on/off switch. I do hear a loud click inside the TV. I pulled the back cover off and looked at the switches. They seem to be working fine. I plugged the TV in and tried the switches again and I hear a loud clicking from inside the set (this is not the clicking sound of the microswitch from the on/off switch that I am talking about). It is a one time click only each time I press the switch. All though sometimes when I press the switch right after I got the click I get nothing. I have to wait 2 or 3 seconds before I can press the switch again to get the red light blink and the click from the switch and inside the TV.
