Using it as a webcam

I am trying to use my video camera as a webcam on MSN messenger. I have it all hooked up and running but when I try to have a video conversation the following message appears: Your conversation cannot begin because your camera is currently in use or not plugged in. Make sure your camera is available and try again. PLEASE HELP!!
