Need new master station, or can an updated model fit in the same whole and function?

Our Master station, the cassette player doesn't work, I can live with that but the unit hummmmms all the time. Like a buzzing bee. Driving me nuts. Volume knob at master is broken off so can't do anything there. Any suggestions? Wouldn't mind updateing to CD player but don't want to change out speakers, they all work great. Thanks, Julie
