Need some help with this unit. It plays SP and LP tapes too fast.

Does anybody know how to fix the playback/rec speed of the Panasonic nv-8420? It plays way too fast. Is there a speed regulator that may be burned out? I have had this unit in storage for over two years now. It used to work perfectly before this. I am at a loss. Please help.
