MODEL GR-D250AG: having trouble tranfering data from tape in camera onto computer! is this possible????

I am having touble transfering data from the camera onto the computer. The camera uses a tape but i think there should be a way to convert the tape data onto the computer for editing. i have tryed to use a fire wire cable but the computer does not seem to display it? Please may anyone who know how to transfer the tape data onto the computer let me know on this e-mail, danielcrundall@hotmail.com Thanks
