no video

Hi, I have a JVC GR-D22U camcorder. When on (M)anual or (A)uto focus the viewfinder and LCD monitor are blank, visuals cannot be recorded, only sound. What seems to be the contrast icons are flashing on the monitor (yellow, looks like a picture of a mountain, two arrows and the top half of a body)
