The optical zoom just stopped working.

When I last used this camcorder the optical zoom stopped working while attemping to zoom in on something. Well in a few minutes the "Push the rest switch" came on and the power LED started to blink.This now is the same re-occurring cycle everytime it is powered up. At the same time, I cannot go into menu mode to check the settings and swithching from playback mode to record mode does not work. Can anyone help me on this one?
