I have the same error message " lens cap needs to be removed" and of course it is not on. I have been told also that it will cost $300 to repiar. I do believe that if this is a chip problem then JVC should repair at no cost. My GRd72u is only 2 years old. Walton Sohrt 281 630 2636 Houston, Texas

    I have the same problem. Pulled out the camera for Christmas and I get the same error message about the lens cap. It will record sound, but no picture. If this is a manufacturing "chip" problem, why isn't JVC stepping up to the plate? I won't pay $300 to fix it. I'll go purchase something more reliable. Kendall

    I have the same problem. My camera is about 3 years old, but I have less than 100 hours of use with it. I took it out to record Christmas and nothing but a black screen with the same error message. I tried everything and even did a camera reset. Nothing worked. I can view previously recorded tapes in the "play" mode, so it isn't the video portion that isn't working. When I do record, the camera will record the sound but no picture!
