No picture on display or viewfinder

i have the handycam dcr-hc14e and i have no picture from the viewfinder or lcd screen in either camera or playback mode ? also the time display jumps around and is not stable sometime disapearing to give --.--.-- then comes back and goes again. I have seen there was a known fault on sony`s website but this only says it applies to camera mode and not to playback mode and says nothing about the time display? any ideas , let me know any more info required many thanks Phil
