JVC Camcorder, somtime (frequently) does not show pic to record

Hi, I have an JVC GR-D30E, very little used. Nowdays when I wanted to use it, I turned on recording but the message "LENS CAP" appeared in the diapley, but the lenscap was not on (ofcourse), no picture. Sometimes it might work ok,of course not when I need it. And soon we are going to Africa, (with or without JVC ?). It had a problem in the beginning, there was a loose screw inside it that shorted a circuit and blew a fuse. That was fixed on warranty, but the warranty is expired by now (I think.) Is this something known or do I have bad luck -:( Any ideas? Regards Bertil
