Nothing in view finder

When I turn camera on the viewfinder screen is black and has blue lines flashing periodically on the screen. All the symbols show up but when I press the button to take a picture the flash goes off and then a red line flashes periodically. The picture doesn't show up on the card. I bought a new battery but didn't make a difference. The camera has never been dropped or around any moisture. It worked fine and then it didn't. Any ideas?
