error message C:31:23 Sony TRV480E

Never seen C31:23 on my screen before but then again its an old cam and did'nt want to part with it as its much better than my new digital canon even tho' it does'nt have all those fancy doo-dahs on it. Typed in those numbers on a google search and amazed anything came up and the message to bash the cam around a bit even dafter but when its not working and you think its finally died,after taking it round the world, there was nothing to lose and hey presto!! works and records nicely now. Even my high-tech grandchild wont take my dinky new canon off my hands and constantly borrows my 'old chunky'(with its dents & scratches)for REAL reliable filming.
