Big screen shuts off on it's own. Timer/stanby begins to blink.

My Sony big screen is approx. 5 years old, and has recently started to shut itself off and the timer/standby light blinks 3 times with a pause and blinks again 3x's. Can anyone give me an idea of what this could mean, and if it's worth having a repairman come check it out? Any feedback would be appreciated.
