Convert DVD Files to MP4 Player

I have a QTec MP4 video player. It has a conversion program to convert files to AVI format. How do I convert DVD files to that format and load on the player? When I converted a regular video CD it took a long time to convert. Is this normal? Also does anyone have a User's Manual for this type of player? Thanks in advance Shosh
