Viewfinder and LCD displaying black image. Lens Cap warning and no iamge recorded.

Hello! Im so gratefull of a site like this. First of all i want to mention that i have obtained this camera two and a half years ago from a pawn shop. It was in great working condition and has been ever since. Last time i used the camera was this summer and it was still in great condition. I decided to film something with it this past week and to my surprise something's wrong. When i playback any footage recorded previosuly it displays fine, on both TV and Viewfinder/LCD. When i turn the camera on, either manual or auto, it displays always a red Lens Cap warning, even though there is none on it. I tried recording and its all still black, nothing at all. Please let me know asap what i can do to fix this problem! Thank you in advance!
