i want to use my tv's dvi port with a computer

anyone know if there is a way to use my sony trinitron KV-36HS500 is a computer display? i hook up the computer using the DVI and no picture shows. i have tried several settings such as resolution and refresh rate. the tv's manual says this: 1 terminal, 3.3V T.M.D.S., 50 ohms The DVI-HDTV input terminal is compliant with the EIA-861 standard and is not intended for use with personal computers. any way around this?
