Fuzzy splash screen and not reading disks

I have a Sony HCD-S800 DVD player with surround sound that will not read disks and has a fuzzy splash screen. I have replaced the laser but the unit still fails to read the DVD, the message on the front display tells me that no disk is inserted. My suspision is now on the video decode board as the splash screen is fuzzy with lines almost like it is outputting NTSC rather than PAL. Has anybody had a similar issue? is it worth replacing the board? Mnay thanks, Stewart
