JVC not working due to dodgy lens

My JVC has a problem that I have been told by a local dealer is a faulty CCT. Does this sound correct? Essentially the lens is up the spout. The picture I get through the viewer is a mass of coloured lines rather than a normal picture. When on play mode the picture, previously recorded, is fine. Is this part diagnosis correct? Can I fix it myself, where can I get a part from? I have been quoted a repair cost of £150 +. I live near London in the UK. Any responses will be appreciated
