Camera in safe guard moide

Hi, My camcorder is about 4 months out of warrantee. I only use to tape the kids hockey games and then edit to make DVD movies of the season. I was using the firewire to transfer the tapes to my computer when the safeguard message first came on. When I followed the instructions to eject the tape and reinsert, the video continued to work. Since then the error happens 99% of the time. My local repair shop quoted a minimum fee of $215 but they do say it is repairable. Any suggestions. My thought is to just by a new one unless there is an easy fix. Thanks
