Tv comes on then shuts off?

My tv will turn on for a few min. then the screen will shut down but I still have audio just no pic. if I shut it down for a few min. then turn it on again it'll stay on for a min. or so then then screen will shut off again. I live in a very rural area with limited resources to service shops but have the skills to preform the surgery if I can get pointed in the right direction.
