Lense mech faulty on Cybershot DSC-P9

Philip Evans Posted Jan 22, 2007

Is there a cost effective means of repairing this ageing but good Camera

Our DSC-P9 was dropped on the beach last summer and subsequently the lens mech became unreliable. After vacuuming it from the outside and knocking it a few times it began to work again. At xmas it begann playing up again and occassionally displayed and error message e:61 I believe. web research established it a auto focus error code and the suggestions either were the 'drop'knock' solution which you have recommended in the past or a £115 Sonty repair. Drop/knocking it worrked again but now its failed again and I believe on pushing the lense back in again i may have torn one of the cogs in the mech so that it is now missing 1-2 teeth so that the lense moves in/out freely with no motor interaction. The motor also just spins. The machine is apart at the moment. Are the cogs available? I'm not sure my abilities would go as far as fitting a new lense system as the conectors dont seem to simply pull off?
