There is a release "button". I had the same problem. Took off the lid. Poked around. On the right side, but near the front, there is piece of white plastic. You can't miss it because everything around it is black plastic. Poke this white plastic rectagular "button" in gently. The DVD will eject. You have to have it plugged in, of course.

I called JVC support. After 24 minutes, I was helped.
I told the guy I had the cover off but did not see anything to activate the drive.
They told me to take the remote & hit the power off button & hold it for at least 10 seconds. AUTO came on. I hit the tray open button, & nothing happened. Tried again, no go.
He said it had to be serviced & offered to give me a service center name in Hawaii.
I said no thanks, & took another closer look where u said to look. Found the white button & voila....
