On an Emerson (Funai) DVDR Model EWR10D5 how can I cancel a recording once it has started ?

On an Emerson (Funai) DVDR Model EWR10D5 how can I cancel a recording once it has started ? If I notice that it's recording the wrong channel, for instance, I can't simply "stop" it, and change to the right channel, or anything reasonable, that I can find in the manual. Currently, the only way I've found is to unplug the unit, let it power back up and "repair" the DVD, and change the recording. There must be a better way, I'm certain, but I have yet to find it !
