JVC GR-SMX260U No picture on lcd screen or through eyepiece

I have a jvc gr-SMX260U camcorder. I recently turned on the camcorder to record ,but i had no image on the lcd screen (Image is all red or black in b&w mode).The lens cap error symbol keeps flashing on the screen even though it was not on. Can you help me or give me some advice to fix the problem. I am capable of this repair if you can point me in the right direction, I have five grandchildren that I would like to record again.
