I have a 52"RCA HDTV M#D52W17. It stoped working

I was watching TV and all of a sudden it went blank no sound no picture but power light was on then there was a popping noise from back sound like sparks so I unpluged it when my husband came in I explained it to him he looked at it and found the problem but we have no Ideal what it is.it is on the computer board a box with focus & screen writen on it with places to ajust it.what is it ?and canwe fix it our self havent had the tv but for 11 months hate to through that money away
