I am having the same problem. Dvd recorder worked fine, then one day started giving me the "lens cap" message and I couldn't get any picture at all. I don't even have a lens cap for the darn thing. Would you email me the information you mentioned earlier? I have a JVC mini DV model number GR-D33U. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, SM

Hi John, I too now have a "lens cap" error and I noticed that you have helped people in the past with this problem. I was hoping that you could give me a hand at how to fix this. 2 years ago I bought the GR-D72u and actually I was very happy with it until 6 months ago.
