no picture, keeps saying lens cap on when not

i have a jvc digital video camera model number gr-d20ek. keeps saying that the lens cap is on but its not so can not video because no picture, can play film thats already taped, but cant video anymore, wondered whether its worth fixin and could there be a silly error thankyou
