Re: JVC service or questions

Dennis Ellis Posted Dec 21, 2006, in response to:Stacy Sample

We have dozens of home movies shot on JVC VHS-C or SVHS-C tapes. We are trying to record them onto DVD's. We are using a JVC C-P7U adapter. Some of the tapes play without a problem, but others have squiggly lines running vertically and horizontally on the screen. Then the lines go away. Then a few seconds later, they return. This continues throughout the tape. I don't think the head is dirty on our player because some of the tapes work fine. Any advice you can give would be much appreciated. We do not want to lose years worth of home movies/memories. Thank you Dennis Ellis

This will almost be certainly an adaptor compatibility problem as VHS-C adaptors can be very iffy in some players and the symptoms you describe suggests that the tape is not running straight. As these items are seen so inexpensive on E-Bay (the one mentioned $10.00 brand new) I would purchase another one rather than take the chance of damaging your tapes.
