Does the adaptor drain power from the camera?

I just got a new XLR adaptor, the Beachtek DXA-10, for my Sony VX-2000 camera. Since I got it, the batteries on my camera seem to run out MUCH faster than previously. Could the adaptor be draining power from the camera? Is there anything to do to prevent it? Thanks, Dave Miller
