re: JVC KD-S5050 malfunctions

John Finley Posted Dec 02, 2006

Car CD/Stereo KD-S5050 malfunctions since playing a corrupt CD; attempts to load phantom (non-existant) CD while radio is playing, interrupting radio play.

Dear Stacy Sample: About one month ago, after 2 years of perfect performance, my JVC unit suddenly began to malfunction. This started immediately after I attempted to play a CD-R that turned out to be corrupt. The disc had 8 songs on it; when I got to the 8th song, the trouble began. The 8th song started skipping and finally stopped playing altogether. I forced the issue, attempting to get it to play, using Search Forward and Search Backward, etc. and finally gave up. Since then, I've confirmed that the disc was corrupt. Other CD's play perfectly and my CD function works perfectly. The problem is the Radio function since the corrupt CD incident, as follows: When listening to my radio in either FM or AM mode, the CD function will intermittently (sometimes continually/sometimes seldom) interrupt Radio play as if I've inserted a CD. Radio play will stop and the faceplate readout will say "Loading CD." Sometimes, almost immediately, the unit will go back to playing the radio only to be interrupted again and again and again. Sometimes it will just stop everything and show CD play numbers stopped at 00:00:46 until I press FM or AM; then it may go back to normal. Sometimes, I press eject and even though it says "Loading...", it will say "No Disc" (true). Sometimes, after saying "Loading....", it'll say "Eject" and give me back the radio. Again, the unit was functioning perfectly until the corrupt CD-R incident and I've confirmed that this CD-R was corrupt. Lastly, I've tried resetting by disconnecting the car battery. Someone has suggested doing this with the power on in order to get a true optimum reset. Hope you can help. Thank you so much for your time. John Finley
