Re: JVC service or questions

Tony Melendez Posted Dec 01, 2006, in response to:Stacy Sample

Model jvc gr-d70u. My wife had used an low voltage adapter that wasn't meant for it. I tested the battery terminals (+ -) and got barely 7 volts. I tested the other battery terminals (T +) and got barely 4 volts. Anyway I think when I pulled the adapter off it is when it stopped working.. by the way the battery was completely dead before..and when she put this adapter in it did charge it for about an hour but I guess now quite enough... anyway, im hoping it's just a fuse. It doesn't turn on or show any signs of life...the tape is still in the mechanism. thanks tony

You should NEVER try any non standard power adaptor on a camcorder even in an emergency, as camcorder electronics are super sensitive to incorrect voltages which may also have RAW unstabilised & unsmoothed DC, as can be had from some supplies used to power portable radios / tape machines or some CD's. However IF it stopped working when you removed the supply then there is a slight chance that it will start again when a "properly charged" battery is installed, so unless you try that it cant be taken for granted that the internal fuse has blown. (IF you are lucky and have not damaged the logic circuitry)
