Safeguard mode come up. I've had it fixed about a year ago, but it came back. What can I do?

Turn on camcorder and the safeguard mode ciomes up, it says to replace battery. This does nothing to fix the problem. I'm thinkiing of buying a new camcorder, but this time it won't be a JCV. Any good suggestions?
